"TA-BAO" KOPI
I'm not sure if anyone still orders "take-away" coffee in this manner.

Nowadays, people often used Styrofoam cups or clear plastic bags for their take-away coffee from the coffee shop. But this manner of "tabao-ing" coffee should be familiar. In the past, coffee shop tender used to sell the take-away coffee in this way. It’s well recognized that once people carry the tin can, it means they had "tabao" coffee from the coffee shop. Those were the days where Styrofoam cups were uncommon and coffee shop re-used the milk can to packet the take-away coffee/ tea for the customers. (It is also a way of making use the last bit of the milk in the tin can as well!!!) Somehow coffee served in this tin can taste better than in Styrofoam cups. This is, so, called the traditional coffee in milk tin cans!

Our design concept for "Ta-Bao" Kopi is actually pretty interesting. We make used of the recognition of the milk tin can as the packaging of our product. The method of buying coffee from our studio is somehow similiar in buying take-away coffee from the coffee shop in the olden days.

The tin can itself contains 4 packs of instant coffee powder, which one could DIY themselves when they need to drink coffee. Isn't it cool to have the olden style of drinking coffee while making your own coffee at home or in the office?

Not Only that, we had also come out with a series whereby one's could choose.

COFFEE: KOPI O, KOPO, KOPI SI
TEA: TEH O, TEH, TEH SI

"Ta-Bao" Kopi: $SGD12.00 (per tin can)

"Ta-Bao" Kopi series: $SGD33.00 (3 tin cans)

THE 5 STONES

This is the first product that our design studio had come out with, the 5 stones. The design concept arrives from our flash back, where we used to play five stones in our childhood time. This is a popular game where ones tend to play during their childhood time as I believe. It is then, being modified from those little stones to triangular cloth bags filled with rice/sand.

It consists of some old school biscuits, whereby it could actually capture the attention for kid and teenager. This is the main motive whereby nowadays kids are not really into the past games such as five stones and all. So with this attractive packaging and biscuits containing, it might capture their heart! Not only that, the oldies biscuits which we can’t really find them often is being used as this is one of the most popular “snacks” that well-liked by the kids back then.

After finishing the biscuits, one’s could actually fill the cloth bag with either rice or beans to complete their five stones games.

A pouch, which acts as a packaging will be provided as well for one to store the product.
the 5 stones: SGD $15.00 (per set)

Some Images of the past properties around living area which we seldom see it often right now!!!

Mama shop that was often found under the void deck of the HBD flats. Usually shop tender tends to place the ice cream freezer near the entrance. Remember those tin cans that store lots of different biscuits in it?!?!
Nowadays, letter boxes are not like this!! Most of them does not require any locks unlike the past. Still remember playing the metal piece and knock it against the letter box to produce those "ting ting" sound!!!
We seldom see corridor in these days. Especially those tiny and squeeze corridors where people tend to place their bicycle and unused items outside of there house. And those metallic windows!!! One's will tend open the window, like a peeping tom, when you are not sure who's knocking your door. Somehow you will greet each other (neighbour) when you saw them walking pass your house. Isn't that memorable?!?
Still remember we used to "park" our bicycle in the void deck under our roof?!?! But it's now prohibited by the law!!!

Past games that were being played during the earlier period.

Marbles
Game that used to be the most popular among boys in Singapore is MARBLE, which are known as " go li", the Tamil term for the word--marble. Marbles is an exciting game and there are many variations of it as well. Boys would try to collect as many marbles from their opponents as possible, making it as the aim of the whole game. The marbles, therefore becomes some sort of trophy that shows how skillful the players are.
How to play?
In this game, players will need to draw a circle first. The circle can be of any size as they want. Each player has, in his hand, a shooting marble. The rest of the marbles are put into the circle. The objective of the game is to use your shooting marble to hit your opponent's marbles out of the circle. When a player manages to hit a marble out of the circle, it becomes his.

Five Stones
Children in Singapore used to compare their collection to see who had the nicest set of five stones. The is actually more well known for girls during that period that time. It's actually a cheap and easy game during the past. Why is it cheap? This is because, most of the mother will just sew for their kids as it is made of just cloths and sand/rice. Thus this can consist as a cheap and affordable game earlier on.
Five stones is a game where you can play on your own or with others. There are acutally a complete set of eight steps to finish the game. Visitor could visit this LINK to know more about the 8 different steps for the game. :)

Pick-Up Sticks
This game was a common sight in the 1960s to 1980s in Singapore. Kids would play with coloured plastic sticks instead of wooden ones. The game was perhaps more popular among the girls than the boys. You could ask your parents if they played Pick-Up Sticks and perhaps ask them to teach you how to play the game! Visit this LINK for more informations!! :)
Kuti Kuti
It is a traditional game in Singapore as well. The game is played by 2 players where they got to flip their rubber animal, trying to get it on top the other. This therefore depicts who is the winner after counting who got the most after the game. This game it then being modified by using those rectangular rubber that is printed with different countries flag on it
Hopscotch
It had always been a source of never-ending fun during my childhood. In kindergarten, being able to hop through all the boxes was a great feat, but in primary school you were seen as silly if you didn’t complete it with a fancy stunt or two. Looking back on those days, I realised that something this simple boxes drawn on the floor, could provide us with that much fun, laughter and joy. Still remember "stealling" some chalks from the classroom, using them to draw out the boxes at the parade square during recess time and after school. Jumpping here and there is fun although they are tiring!!! :)

Penang Teochew Cendol

Penang Teochew Cendol, or commonly known as "Ang Tau (Red bean in hokkien) Cendol" is a highly popular dessert. This delicious cooling sweet dessert comes with ingredients of shaved ice, red beans, cendol, coconut milk and gula melaka (brown sugar).
Sweetened red bean.
Cendol in coconut milk.
Both Red bean and chendol are added onto the bowl of shaved ice. And this with gula melaka added in and it seved as the Penang Teochew Cendol.

Colourful Iceball.
It is seldom seen nowadays and was once a very favourable item and loved by many children. It does bring back old memories when ones buying this type of iceball after school hours. It was fun then holding the cold iceball with their bare hands.

It does take some skill to make the iceball. She has to make sure the shaved ice are packed tightly together to ensure that the ball do not fall apart. It can be quite cold on the hands when doing so.
She will then add on the colouring onto the ice ball. This is actually similar to "Ice Kachang" which we now could find at most of the desert store.

Does You guys still remember this??

The "old version" of the SBS bus!!! It belong to Singapore Airport Bus Service (SABS) actually. It used to be non-airconditioned and the bus seats were made of wood and the cushion was red. The big red bell gave a loud BEEEP when pressed. There were colorful tickets for CSS buses. The conductor would check tickets using a machine that punched a hole in each ticket. All SBS buses used to be manually operated, with a gigantic gearstick to the left of the driver. It's just so different from the Public transport nowadays!!!
